나는 위대한 사람이 되고 싶다. 그렇다면, “위대한 사람”은 대체 어떤 사람일까. 위대한 사람이라고 납득할 만한 저마다의 기준이 있겠지만, 나는 이렇게 생각한다.

하고 싶은 것을 하면서 행복, 성취, 명예, 그리고 부를 이뤄나가는 사람. (중요도는 앞에 있을수록 크다.)

그리고 나는 “내가 생각하는” 위대한 사람이 될 것이다. 하고 싶은 것을 하면서 행복, 성취, 명예, 그리고 부를 이뤄나가는 사람.

그래서인지, 과연 내가 진정으로 하고 싶은 것이 무엇일까에 대한 고민이 많은 요즘이다. 하루에도 몇 번씩 내가 나아갈 수 있는 서로 다른 미래를 그려보곤 한다.

그럼에도 이러한 고민을 할 수 있는 여유와 시간이 주어진 이번 겨울방학에 감사한다. (삼성화재 인턴 면접에서 최종 불합격을 받았을 때만 해도 이번 겨울방학은 망했나 싶었지만…)

인생사 역시 새옹지마다.

I want to become a great person. Then what kind of person, exactly, is a “great person”? Everyone has their own standard for who counts as great, but this is what I think.

Someone who does what they want to do while building happiness, achievement, honor, and wealth along the way. (The earlier an item appears, the more it matters.)

And I will become a great person “as I see it.” Someone who does what they want to do while building happiness, achievement, honor, and wealth along the way.

Maybe that is why I find myself thinking a lot these days about what I truly want to do. Several times a day, I picture the different futures I could move toward.

Even so, I am grateful for this winter break, which has given me the time and room to wrestle with these questions. (When I got the final rejection after my internship interview at Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, I thought this winter break was ruined…)

Once again, life proves that you never know what will turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
